Why do I believe?
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Savior and Redeemer of the world. I also believe that He visited the Americas shortly after His resurrection, as recounted in The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ; that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is His ancient church restored to the Earth in preparation for His return; that He leads the Church through modern-day prophets and apostles; and that through ordinances performed with His power in the Church’s sacred temples, families can be sealed together for eternity.
These beliefs have become my personal convictions for many reasons, most of which can be summarized in one overarching explanation: the joy I feel, and see in others, in following Christ. I felt that joy as I taught people about the restored gospel of Jesus Christ during a two-year volunteer mission in São Paulo, Brazil. I felt that joy while serving in various capacities, from youth leader to choir director to teacher, in local congregations where I’ve lived, from Boston to Virginia to Colorado to Rio de Janeiro. Perhaps most importantly, I feel that joy every day in my life as I seek to maintain and deepen my relationships with a loving Father in Heaven and with His Beloved Son through prayer, scripture study, repentance, and ongoing efforts to be more Christlike.
